Jan 7 - Food Drive

Tomorrow morning I am announcing our 2012 Souper Bowl of Caring food drive. I will be taking all of this food up during the Children's Sermon to use as ideas of good things to donate over the next 4 weeks. I'll also include a few things where donating may not such a good idea.

Ice cream, Bacon, Boiled Peanuts......Hope those don't make it in the box.

Jan 6 - Late night = Waffle House

Thursday evening, I attended a fantastic youth ministry training event at Duke Divinity School. Mark DeVries spoke for a couple of hours on healthy church systems. While it was material I have heard before, it was really great to be reminded of the importance of striving for and building a youth ministry that is sustainable. I walked away with 2 things I should have done when I first started this new job and just have not gotten around to for whatever reason. I'll start on those tomorrow.

None of that has to do with today's picture. After the seminar, I spent a late evening talking about youth ministry with a couple of buddies at the Waffle House. So this picture stretches into Friday.

How in the world have I lived in North Carolina since May and am just now making it to the fine dining establishment of the Waffle House? We left our late dinner with plans to do it again in a month or so.

Jan 4 - Chick-fil-a

Right after we moved here last summer, I Facebook liked the Chick-fil-a right up the street from church simply because on Wednesdays, they gave all of their Facebook fans a free sandwich if you buy a sweet tea.

Guess where I've been almost every Wednesday at noon...

Anyway, last week on the final Wednesday of the promotion, I filled my second Facebook fan card with stamps and was able to return today and claim my prize.

There are so many great things about our move to North Carolina - Chick-fil-a is certainly one of them.

Had our first staff meeting of 2012 this morning. Very exciting things ahead of us this year!

Jan 2 - Dancing

One advantage to embracing the 12 days of Christmas - $1 Santa hats at Target! Which, according to Jax, makes dancing to the Barney Christmas show "so much more fun!"

And yes, he did wear the Santa hat to the mall yesterday afternoon. If you ever want to have more conversations with strangers than you can count, go the mall 1 week after Christmas day with a 3 year old in a Santa hat.
